In 1869 Russian scientist Dimitri Mendeleev published the first version of the Periodic Table, and to celebrate its 150th anniversary the United Nations has named 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.

The Opening Ceremony is taking place today at UNESCO in Paris. There’s a packed programme of activities, and if you’re not lucky enough to be there yourself then you can watch the event live, here.

We’ll be celebrating the IYPT ourselves too so stay updated with the community throughout the year and don’t miss out!
